Apple’s autonomous car unit, named Titan, is now being led by John Giannandrea, the current SVP of Machine Learning and AI Strategy, who also leads Siri. Before working at Apple, John Giannandrea was SVP of Engineering at Google, and Chief Technologist at Netscape Communications. Starbucks CEO Kevin Johnson Becomes Board Member For Seattle Customer Intelligence Startup Amperity

Starbucks CEO Kevin Johnson has joined Amperity, a Seattle-based customer intelligence startup as a board member. Amperity focuses on using customer data to provide marketing solutions that have been used by companies such as Alaska Airlines, Patagonia, and Starbucks, which was an early adopter. Sitting on the board is an unusual decision for Kevin Johnson, as he does not sit on any other tech startup boards. He previously worked at Microsoft as President of Platforms Division and was CEO of Juniper Networks. [Read More]

The World’s First University of Artificial Intelligence Appoints CMU Professor Dr. Eric Xing as President

The Mohamed bin Zayed University of Artificial Intelligence, the world’s first research-based graduate-level AI university, has appointed Professor Dr. Eric Xing as President. He will be leading the first intake of graduate students which will occur in January 2021. Dr. Eric Xing is also a Professor of Machine Learning and the founding director of the Center for Machine Learning and Health at Carnegie Mellon University. He is also the Founder, Chairman, and Chief Scientist of Petuum, a software infrastructure and ecosystem provider that enables AI for enterprise. [Read More]

San Francisco-based Startup Opendoor appointed Kushal Chakrabarti as its VP of research and data science

Opendoor, a San Francisco-based real-estate startup, has appointed Kushal Chakrabarti as its VP of Research and Data Science. Kushal Chakrabarti will oversee all product analytics and data science approaches, and his team will work on product, engineering, operations, and design. Prior to this, he was a Data Scientist and Engineering lead at Amazon and an Advisor at Airbnb; he also led Seattle-based microfinance nonprofit Vittana. [Read More]

Criteo, the machine learning-powered advertising company based in Paris, has appointed Brendan McCarthy as its CMO. Brendan McCarthy will be leading the marketing and communications teams across the company’s global markets, as well as being a part of Criteo's transformation and innovation strategy to a Commerce Media Platform. Criteo also applies machine learning to its unparalleled data sets. Previously, he was SVP and Head of Communications at Nielsen, as well as SVP of Edelman, both marketing and advertising companies.
