Guido van Rossum, the creator of the Python programming language, announced that he has left retirement to join Microsoft’s Developer Division as a Distinguished Engineer. Neither Guido van Rossum or Microsoft has explained what exactly he will be doing, but he has said it will “make using Python better for sure”. Weta Digital, a visual effects company from New Zealand, has appointed Joe Marks as their CTO, overseeing technology initiatives for visual effects and animation, and helping to unite Weta Digital’s AI initiatives with real-time technology. Joe Marks is also the Executive Director for the Center of Machine Learning and Health at Carnegie Mellon University, and previously worked at Mitsubishi Electric Research Labs as a research director. Angela Hession has 20 years of experience working with Microsoft as Global Head of Gaming Safety and Trust, Strategy Leader, and HoloLens Principal Program Lead. Instacart, a San-Francisco based grocery delivery company, has appointed Christina Hall as their first Chief Human Resources Officer. Her aim will be to build employee retention and develop human resources strategies regarding recruiting, diversity, and equity. Most notably, Christina Hall was previously SVP and Chief People Officer at LinkedIn, as well taking HR roles at Facebook. California-based cloud subscription management company, Zuora, has appointed Valerie Jackson as its first Chief Diversity Officer, where she will lead its diversity and inclusion strategy across its global workforce. Prior to this, Valerie Jackson worked as Senior Director of Global Inclusion and Diversity at Procore technologies, and Director of Diversity at Sutherland Asbill & Brennan LLP, where she was recruited by Stacey Abrams, former Georgia state representative, and governor candidate. Arizona-based AI recruiting startup, Paradox, has hired Stephanie King as their Chief Legal Officer and Chief of Staff. Previously, Stephanie King worked at global law firm DLA Piper as an attorney and partner. Before she was hired, Stephanie King knew Paradox as one of her legal clients. In May, Paradox raised $40M in funding and has worked with high-profile companies such as McDonald’s, Unilever, and CVS Health. [Read More]
General Motors Co. has announced plans to hire 3,000 engineering, design, and IT employees to help develop electric vehicles and in-car connected technologies. GM will be looking for electrical system engineers, infotainment software engineers, controls engineers, and developers versed in Java, Android, iOS and other platforms. GM is also building a battery-cell manufacturing operation in Ohio to help lower the cost of batteries for electric vehicles. [Read More]
