Apple has hired Samy Beningo as their new AI Research Director, under the leadership of John Giannandrea, senior VP of Machine Learning and AI Strategy. Prior to this, Bengio was a Distinguished Research Scientist at Google, following the recent firing of his colleagues Margaret Mitchell, Timnit Gebru over disputes regarding Google’s AI ethics practices.
